Description

Betsy Ross was an important individual during the time of the American Revolution. Many claimed she is the sole designer of this flag but that is widely debated. The stars-and-stripes flag was adopted by the Continental Congress in June of 1777. The 13 stars in the shape of a circle represent the 13 original colonies. The Journals of the Continental Congress state “that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.” Many historians questioned throughout the years why the starts were placed in a circle, many claim it’s to represent perpetuity and equality and to show that no colony is greater than another.
